History
Harry A. Bo MacEwen decided to become an architect at the age of nine, when he began art lessons. During the ensuing years, he pursued this ambition by continuing art studies through grade school, high school, and college, including engineering construction and architectural design.
During MacEwens high school and early college years, he had the privilege of working with one of the Souths outstanding classicist architects - W. Elliott Dunwody, Jr. His education in classic architecture combined with exposure to traditional studies under Dunwodys guidance and tutelage prepared him to formulate the basis for The MacEwen Groups range of architectural styles - from classic architectural treatment to contemporary designs.
Creative experience has been the driving force behind the continuing architectural career of Harry A. MacEwen. His enduring professional drive has spanned more than 54 years and characterizes a firm that truly enjoys the practice of architecture. MacEwen became registered to practice architecture in 1936 and began his practice in Lakeland, Florida, as a principal in his own firm. Since 1936 he has been a principal in architectural firms established by him, except for the years of 1942 to 1945, when he served as commanding officer of several subchasers in the U.S. Navy.
Today, the emphasis of The MacEwen Group in Tampa remains the same as the philosophy of the young firm established in 1936 to provide an exceptional product and impeccable service combined with a reverence for budgetary, environmental, and regulatory considerations.
